A Time Trap

It feels as though the last few weeks have been a time warp. So many things have been going on and I have so many pictures on the camera to get onto this blog....I'm not sure the pictures will get on today, but here's the most recent ABCD in our lives:

A We had a brief snow a couple weeks ago. One of those dustings that never completely cover the tips of the grass. Nonetheless, we were sledding at 7:45am. The kids took advantage of every minute and we barely made it to 11am church service that morning. Mostly, they were excited to put on snowbibs, snow boots, real warm snow gloves, hats and scarfs. They were VERY proud to carry their new sleds under their arms down the sidewalk to the "hill" in our neighborhood. All of the winter weather clothing & sleds were a special delivery from Grandma & Grandpa in Minnesota. David almost drooled looking at the sled in the garage the entire month of January waiting and hoping to use it. It was a fun morning - I do have pictures!

B Last weekend we had a heat wave. The temps were near 80 for 2 days. Just long enough for a mother to quickly discover how little "summer" clothing her children have in their closets. David's moving into 4T's and Rachel's definitely a size 7 now. Ugh...do they have to keep growing?

C Speaking of growing, Rachel has initiated this exact conversation with me on at least 2 different occassions recently:
R: Mom, first I'm a baby. Then I'm a girl. Then I'm a teenager, right?
Me: Yes, Rachel that's right.
R: Then I'm an adult, right.
Me: Yes.
R: Then I'm a mommy. Then I'm a Grandma. Then I'm a Granny. Then I'm a Nana, right, Mom?
[ note: she listed both of her grandmothers and then great grandmother Nana]
Me: Yes, I suppose that's right, Rachel. But, Rachel, why are you a Grandma and then a Granny?
R: [cupping her cheek in the palm of her hand] Because Grandmas have smooth skin and Grannys have lines on their faces. Grannys are older than Grandmas and younger than Nanas.

I really haven't the heart to tell my sweet, wonderful mother-in-law this story, because she's the Granny in it. I suppose, now, she'll know. But also she should be happy to know that Rachel loves her dearly enough to study and memorize the details of her face when they are together. I'm all warm inside knowing that my daughter is forming and holding details of her grandparents in her mind even though they live so far away.

D David is pooping on the potty!! Yeppie --- you will not hear me write anymore about this topic! And I don't have any pictures!
