Mules Galore at Mule Days Parade

While Greg was in TX at the races 2 weekends ago, I took the kids to the Annual Mule Days Parade in Columbia TN. I read about it in the paper, it's been going on for 70 some years and is a huge week-long event of mule competitions galore and the famous parade. Being a single-parent that weekend, I decided that taking in the parade was a do-able activity. So, what's a parade like at Mule Days? Mules, more mules, big mules pulling carts, small mules, couple horses, more mules, urn of ashes of largest mule recorded, more mules, mules pulling wagons, more mules. (Note: no bands, clowns, overly-decorative floats.) This mule-focused parade went on for a little more than 2 hours.

The personal high for me was seeing herding dogs actually herd sheep down the parade route. Honest. The owners were just following along in a golf cart and the dogs were herding the sheep. Probably about 15 sheep. Honest to goodness.

On the drive home from the parade, I stopped at a place for the kids to have pony rides. This was their high for the day. Especially for Rachel who has decided that she will be a vet when she grows up. Of course, David's pony stopped suddenly and the owner announced "potty break". That was the funniest and I heard about it for the remainder of the weekend.
