First day of Kindergarten

Rachel's first week of Kindergarten is here! On Sunday afternoon, a purple balloon surprised us on the mailbox. The note attached to the balloon said, "Kindergartner's are special!" Isn't that a nice touch? One point for the PTO!

Today Rachel went to school for a half day with a third of her classmates. She was very sad that her good friend Lindy was home with the stomach bug. (Although still very excited that they are in the same class!) Get well soon, Lindy!

This morning Rachel got up at 7:00 and turned off her alarm clock. She was eager to get downstairs for breakfast after I told her a surprise was waiting for her at the kitchen table. First, Daddy was still home & ready to eat breakfast with us. Second, she found her place set with a small vase of roses (that I clipped from the backyard).

As I suspected, she chose cereal for breakfast. She is still her Daddy's girl! Rachel admitted during breakfast that she felt nervous. Speaking of Daddy, Greg reminded me how teary and hesitant she was to go into school for the ice cream social a few weeks ago. He suggested we leave plenty early, move slowly and give her a little time to make her first entrance into school. He was right on and we had only smiles the whole time.

While waiting a few minutes for the school doors to open, she found Regan. Yeppie! A familiar sweet face from the neighborhood- sure to be good friends.

Good Morning, Mrs. Bradley!

Rachel's cubby is in between Lindy's and Regan's. Rachel placed her lunchbox and extra set of clothes in their spot and hung up her backpack.

She quickly sat down & got busy. (I quickly felt unneeded!!) Mrs. Bradley had a fun day planned. They did some activities, read Corduroy and went on a hunt for Corduroy's button around the school. They finally found it on the playground and that smart little bear had left Teddy Grahams as a surprise snack for everyone. Rachel said, "I loved it."

Waller Mouthfuls

At dinner, Rachel asked, "Why don't you have something on your mirror?" I was confused. "What do you mean?" I asked. It became obvious she was referring to the rear-view mirror in my car when she replied, "You know, like a fake, paper tree, a sparkly necklace, or 2 dominos."

We were about to ride the go-carts and bummer cars. David announced in his grown-up manly sounding voice, "Watch out, I'm gonna pimp my ride!"

I was rubbing David's back and stopped. David said, "Please pet me more, Mommy."

After seeing a picture of Grandpa as a teenager, Rachel said, "Grandpa, you look better old."

David really wanted his friend Erika to pick up the guitar and play while he was beating the drum set. He wanted to pretend they were a band. When he asked, Erika replied, "I don't want to, honey." David replied, "It's not honey, it's music!"

I overheard Rachel tell David, "Yep, that's what they call me at school... the expert."

David explained, "I don't want you to do what I say that I don't want you to do even if you want to do it, I don't want you to and I'll tell you what I want you to do. Ok?"

Rachel has had moments of shy-ness lately. At one point she said, "When I feel the butterflies in my tummy, I know there's no room inside for talk and laughter. Everything goes quiet when the butterflies are flying."

David climbed into bed, snuggled under the covers and rolled on top of me. We were belly to belly. He whispers in my ear, "ah, this is the warm spot."

David was cold and wanted to quickly get on his pj's after getting out of the bath. He stated, "Mommy, hurry! There's no time to spare!"

When the choir was done singing in church today, David leaned to me and said: "That song was nice. I got bumps in my tummy."

After preschool, David told me about one of his classmates: "Mommy, you know Theo is not a good listener." Mommy: "Oh, did he have to sit in the Think-About-It-Chair today?" David: "No, he's not a good thinker either."

David snuggled into bed with me this morning and said, "Mommy, you're very warm...have you been drinking a lot of coffee?"

On the first day of school Rachel said in an exhausted voice, "Mommy, will you pllleease just stop holding the camera!?"

Mommy: "David, how do you want your hair cut?" David: "As short as a hog's."

David came into my room this morning and said, "Mommy, I zoomed-d out of bed today!"

Deuce was in the doorway, blocking David. Using his deep, manly voice, David told the dog: Get outa my way, you two-timer.

Rachel asked: Is fire hotter than the water in Daddy's bath?
