The Greatest Accomplishment!

Last week we had yet another canceled school day due to the prediction of icy weather. There was such a slim chance of snow that I can't even consider calling it a "snow day". I was scheduled to take Rachel to school, and host my MOPS mom friends over to my house. David & the other kids were to play in the MOPPETS program at church as usual. So, I was looking forward to entertaining just grown ups and having some good girl time. I spent Tuesday cleaning the house and preparing muffins & egg casserole.
At 5:30am I woke up early and showered, got dressed and went downstairs to finish last-minute preparations before the kids woke up. Then Greg called from work to tell me that the schools announced they were closing. Here I sat in the cleanest house with 2 kids and disappointment set in. While my heart wanted to tell the group to come over anyway, I just couldn't get mentally excited about having over a dozen children running around while the scent of windex still lingered. I changed back into my pj's and somehow knew the kids would play in theirs all day, too.
Around 8:30am I was on the phone discussing the weather with my dear friend Arianne. Suddenly, I was popping in the casserole and turning on the coffee pot since she agreed to come over & help me eat brunch. One of the most important signs of a good friend is that she agreed to forgo all her household chores to just come over to play.
After eating brunch, we sat down on the couch while the kids played upstairs. Within minutes I spontaneously asked, "Would you like to do a puzzle?" That one question immediately plotted our course for the remainder of the day. We proudly completed a 550+ piece jigsaw puzzle, occassionally stopping to feed the kids, plug in the Wii, re-start the Dora dance mat, etc. It was SHEAR PLEASURE! The sense of accomplishment is so great, that the puzzle is still sitting completed on the dining room table....4 days later. Obviously neither of us got any chores done all day - we simply played. It was one of the best days I can remember. I can't wait for another "snow day!"
