And the moral of the story is...

...Don't try to walk when your foot is "asleep" Yesterday I got off the chair, after sitting my foot for awhile. It was tingling "asleep", but I obviously didn't give it a second thought and stood up to walk. It felt like my leg went through my ankle to the floor while my foot twisted onto its side. Ouch.

The orthopaedic doctor confirmed it's sprained with a small tear in the ligament around my left ankle. For the next 3 weeks I am to elevate it whenever possible and ice it 3 times per day. My next appointment is in early August to check the healing. Until then, I'm in a very trendy, gorgeous compression sock and air cast (just like Rachel wore earlier this year). I'm hoping it improves quicker than the doctor's estimate of 3 months so I don't have to wear this thing to Singapore in September! Good news: it's my left ankle, I can still drive. Bad news: no more water skiing this summer for me.
Yes, the next several weeks are going to be lazy...or, as lazy as possible with kids in tow.
Speaking of kids, Rachel has been quite the nurse these past 24 hours. She's brought me the ice pack, stuffed pillows under my foot for me, snuggled me, and frequently asks, "Mommy how are you feeling now?" "Mommy, let me touch it a few places and you tell me where the hurt is." She was all professional at the doctors office. When he came into the exam room, she immediately shook his hand and thanked him for healing her foot. Then, she kindly stated, "I think you'll need to give Mommy a cast like mine so she can feel better very soon." She ended up being exactly right...only trouble is Mommy's ankle will take months to heal while hers healed in 20 days! God love my children - so precious! They each received a small glass of coke with ice cubes like mine when we got home. A very special and rare treat for my caretakers!
