1) David happily and quickly swam in the water around the boat.
For the first few months of the summer David kept to the ladder at the back of the boat, fearful of swimming in the bottomless lake water. The only thing I can contribute the change to is the many times we've been in the pool. Each time in the pool he explores further away from me - swimming, playing and floating in all depths of water in his life jacket. Doesn't this happy smile say "I'm proud of myself!"
2) Rachel's first lesson at water skiing.
It was late in the afternoon when Rachel suddenly announced that she wanted to learn to ski. It completely caught Greg & I by surprise. "Are you sure?" we kept asking her. "Yes, Yes, Yes" was her determined response. While Greg got out the kid skiis, I started talking to her about how challenging it is to learn to ski. I compared it to learning to bicycle without training wheels and that it will take many trys; that she needs to be proud of herself and be patient. Greg had her stand in the skiis in the boat and he started some instruction. Once in the water, he continued to coach her. She made one good attempt and went face-first into the water as she let go of the rope. She was very upset that she got water up her nose and didn't want to try again. Greg was impressed with her form and we hope she'll try again the next time we're out on the lake.
3) Both kids rode in the tube by themselves. Granted it was at a very slow speed- but a good sign of confidence and independence all the same. Rachel loved using all the hand signals.
